China participated in the war!!
On August 20, China informed U.S. that since North Korea is their neighbor, they can’t just watch the war going on.
On October 1, North Korea and Russia asked China to send 5-6 troops in to Korea.
After debating in China, they decided to send some troops into North Korea to fight.
On October 25, China ordered 200,000 people to enter North Korea.
China’s army was ordered to walk around at night for camouflage.
Some of the army was ordered to shoot security violators.
These orders allowed the army to march 286 miles.
When they continued, they were marching averaging 18 miles daily for 18 days.
The China’s army secretly crossed over the Yalu River on October 19, and launched an attack to U.S. Army on October 25.
On November 1, China and U.S. army had their first confrontation.
While the confrontation was going on, North Korea’s army secretly attacked the U.S. Army from north, northwest, and west.
This resulted in retreating back to the Ch’ongch’on River, which is near the 38th parallel.
However, after U.S. retreated, China went back to their hideout in the mountains.
On November 25, North Korea’s army attacked U.S. Army in Ch’ongch’on River, which made U.S. Army retreat.
By November 30, North Korea managed to expel U.S. Army from northwest Korea.
U.S. Army retreated from the north faster than they thought they would and by mid December, they crossed 38th parallel.
About 193 shiploads and materiel were evacuated to Pusan.
The China’s army attacked while playing trumpets and gongs loudly which was not familiar with U.S. Army.
This caused some soldiers to panic, to abandon their weapons and retreat to the south.
This allowed North Korean and China to conquer Seoul for the second time on January 4, 1951.
U.S. army retreated to Suwon in the west, Wonju in the center, and the territory north of Samcheok in the east,
where the battlefront stabilized and held.
